Kustom’s Ethical Instructions define which business segments are either restricted or prohibited. These guidelines reflect our commitment to responsible commerce, legal compliance and consumer protection. For detailed information of which business segments are prohibited or restricted please see our Ethical instructions.
What is a business segment?
A business segment refers to the type of products or services your store offers.
Restricted business segments
Businesses in restricted segments may still be eligible to onboard with Kustom, but they require additional review.
If your business falls into a restricted segment our team may contact you during onboarding to request more information in order to approve the onboarding. One of the requirements we might contact you on is having you fill out a Due Diligence Questionnaire (DDQ).
What is a DDQ and why do we send them?
We send DDQs (Due Diligence Questionnaires) to assess merchants who operate in some restricted business segments. These merchants require additional scrutiny due to higher risk profiles, regulatory requirements, or potential exposure.
DDQs help us:
Verify that merchants meet applicable regulatory requirements
Understand their business model and potential risks
Collect necessary documentation before they can be onboarded or continue processing payments
Merchants in restricted segments may still be onboarded if they meet specific requirements and mitigation actions. However, businesses in prohibited segments cannot use Kustom's services under any circumstances.
Each case is assessed individually, and approval is not guaranteed.
Business segment is prohibited
If your business operates within a prohibited segment, you will not be able to onboard with Kustom. These applications are automatically declined.
Why these restrictions exist
Kustom applies these standards to:
Ensure alignment with our ethical values
Support legal and regulatory compliance
Promote consumer safety and trust
Uphold social and environmental responsibility
