Before, during and after switching from Vipps Checkout to Kustom Checkout

What to expect before, during and after your switch from Vipps Checkout to Kustom Checkout — including what you need to do and when.

This article is for merchants currently using Vipps Checkout. If you are using Vipps as a payment method through a different checkout solution, this article does not apply to you. Read more here instead.


Before your switch

Vipps MobilePay Checkout will continue to operate as usual until you switch. You do not need to take any action until you hear from Kustom.

From now until your switch, you can expect:

  • Email updates from Kustom with information about your upcoming switch

  • Clear instructions before any action is required from you

If needed, you may be asked to:

  • Complete onboarding steps in the Kustom onboarding portal

  • Provide information related to payment processing setup

Note: Stripe will act as your new payment processor for Kustom Checkout. During the onboarding, if required, you may be asked to provide some information about you and/or your company.


If you are currently onboarding to Vipps MobilePay Checkout

If you are in the middle of onboarding to Vipps MobilePay Checkout, you have two options:

  1. Complete your current Vipps MobilePay Checkout onboarding and switch to Kustom Checkout at a later point.

  2. Switch directly to Kustom Checkout now by starting your onboarding at https://portal.kustom.co/onboarding/vipps. This onboarding link is specifically for Vipps Checkout merchants.

You are in control of when you make the switch. If you feel ready and want to get started with Kustom Checkout sooner, you are welcome to do so at any time.


When you switch

When you complete your switch to Kustom Checkout, the following changes take effect:

  • You are now onboarded to Kustom Checkout and are no longer using Vipps MobilePay Checkout

  • Vipps remains available as a payment method

  • Kustom becomes your checkout provider

  • Stripe becomes your payment processing provider for new transactions

  • Your checkout agreement is assigned to Kustom

Note: You will receive guidance and relevant information ahead of your switch to help you prepare.


After your switch

After you have switched to Kustom Checkout:

  • All new transactions are processed through Kustom Checkout

  • Orders, refunds, disputes, payouts, and reporting are managed in the Kustom portal or via API

  • Disputes for new transactions are handled in the Kustom portal

  • Fraud screening follows Kustom's risk and processing setup

  • Additional payment methods will be available in your checkout


Payouts during the transition period

For a limited period after your switch, you may receive payouts from both Vipps MobilePay AS and Kustom AB. This depends on when your transactions were initiated — transactions started before your switch date will be settled by Vipps MobilePay AS, while new transactions will be settled by Kustom AB.
