Earlier this year, Vipps MobilePay was activated as a native payment method inside Kustom Checkout for all merchants who previously offered it through a separate integration. If you also run a separate Vipps payment flow alongside your Kustom Checkout — for example a "Pay with Vipps" option shown before or outside the checkout itself — Vipps is currently being offered to your shoppers twice: once through that separate flow, and once inside Kustom Checkout.
If Vipps only ever appears as a payment method inside your Kustom Checkout iframe, this article does not apply to you — see Vipps payments in Kustom Checkout — what is changing and what to expect instead.
What is a separate Vipps payment flow?
This is any setup where a shopper can choose or complete a Vipps payment before they reach your Kustom Checkout, or in parallel with it. Internally we sometimes call this a "fork", since the shopper's payment journey splits into two paths instead of one. In practice, it can look like:
A "Pay with Vipps" button on the cart page, above your checkout
A separate Vipps step shown before the shopper is handed off to Kustom Checkout
A Vipps option on a page alongside your checkout, rather than inside it
Any other flow where Vipps payment is initiated and completed outside the Kustom Checkout iframe
If any of these describe your setup, you're running two payment flows side by side: your Kustom Checkout, and a separate Vipps flow.
Why this needs to change
Having two Vipps options at checkout causes confusion for your shoppers and splits your reporting:
A split experience for shoppers, who see Vipps in two different places and aren't sure which one to use
Fragmented reporting, with some Vipps orders settled separately from the rest of your payment methods
Unnecessary complexity for you, maintaining an integration that Kustom now handles natively
Removing the extra flow keeps your storefront clean and ensures all sales go into a single Kustom settlement report — one place to manage everything, regardless of how a shopper pays.
Example of how it can look
What Kustom has already done
Vipps MobilePay has already been activated as a native payment method inside your Kustom Checkout. This part is done — no action needed from you here.
What you need to do now
Since Vipps is now live inside your Kustom Checkout, you (or your platform partner) need to disable the separate Vipps payment flow that is still active in your store. Concretely, this typically means:
Removing or hiding the separate "Pay with Vipps" button, page, or step in your storefront
Making sure shoppers are no longer routed to a Vipps flow outside of Kustom Checkout
Confirming that Vipps only appears as a payment option inside the Kustom Checkout itself
This part is on your side
The separate payment flow lives in your storefront or platform setup — not inside Kustom Checkout — so Kustom cannot disable it on your behalf, and we can't provide step-by-step guidance for your specific backend, theme, or platform. Since setups vary, please head to your store settings, or check with your developer or platform partner, to disable it. How you do this depends entirely on how it was built:
If a platform partner or developer set up your separate Vipps flow, they are best placed to remove it
If you're on one of our supported platforms — such as Centra, Litium, Optimizely, or another platform partner — this may involve removing a plugin, app, custom code, or theme section, and your platform partner can help
If it was custom-built for your site, your development team will know where to look
We're always available if you have questions about what needs to happen — but how to make the change in your specific setup needs to be handled by you or whoever manages your storefront.
After you remove it
Once the separate flow is gone, your shoppers will go through a single checkout regardless of how they choose to pay. Vipps orders will be settled, reported, and managed in the same place as all your other payment methods — no separate reconciliation needed.
Timing
Vipps is already live inside your Kustom Checkout, so there's no need to wait — you can disable the separate payment flow now. The sooner it's removed, the sooner your shoppers stop seeing Vipps twice and all your Vipps sales land in a single settlement report.
