Vipps payments in Kustom Checkout — what is changing and what to expect

For Kustom Checkout merchants offering Vipps. Learn what is changing, what you need to do, and what to expect when Vipps moves into your checkout.

Updated in the last hour

This article is for merchants who are already using Kustom Checkout and offer Vipps as a payment method through a separate agreement with Vipps MobilePay.

If you are using Vipps MobilePay Checkout as your main checkout solution, this article does not apply to you. Read more here instead.

You can also find answers to frequently asked questions about the switch at kustom.co.

What is changing

Kustom has acquired Vipps MobilePay Checkout and becomes a recommended checkout solution for Vipps MobilePay. As part of this partnership, both companies' products will be specifically optimized for each other. In turn, Vipps MobilePay will be available as a payment method to a larger number of new merchants across the Nordics.

This opens up new opportunities for growth for Kustom Checkout merchants by removing barriers and making it easier to increase cross-market sales across the Nordics and Europe. For you as a Kustom Checkout merchant who offers Vipps MobilePay payments through a separate integration, you will now get access to these payment methods directly through Kustom. That means less technical complexity and a better customer experience.

The goal is a simpler, unified setup for you and a more seamless experience for your shoppers. Your customers will continue to pay with Vipps exactly as they do today.

What changes depending on how you offer Vipps

How the switch works for your store depends on which Vipps products you use. Find your setup below.

You offer Vipps as a payment option inside your checkout (EPM)

If Vipps appears as a payment option inside your Kustom Checkout alongside your other payment methods, Kustom will handle the switch on the backend. Your separate Vipps integration will be disabled on Vipps' end, and Vipps will be activated as a native payment method inside your Kustom Checkout instead. You may need to make a small update to how your integration reads the Vipps payment method — you will be informed if and when this is needed.

You offer a separate Vipps checkout flow before shoppers enter your checkout (fork)

If your shoppers are presented with a choice to pay with Vipps before they enter your Kustom Checkout — as a separate flow — you or your platform partner will need to remove that separate flow once Vipps is live inside your Kustom Checkout. Kustom cannot remove this on your behalf. You will receive clear instructions on when and how to do this.

You offer Vipps Express

If you offer Vipps Express, you will need to integrate Kustom's express elements as a replacement. The shopper experience will remain the same. Kustom will guide you through the integration when the time comes. The transition to Kustom Express is estimated to start in the second half of 2026.

You offer Vipps Recurring

If you offer recurring or subscription payments through Vipps, Kustom will become your provider for recurring payments. Tokens will be migrated from Vipps to Kustom. You do not need to take any action right now — recurring payments will continue to flow through Vipps MobilePay until the transition, and you will be informed well in advance before anything changes. The transition to Kustom Recurring is estimated to start toward the end of 2026.

What you need to do right now

For most merchants, no immediate action is required. Here is a quick summary:

  • Vipps inside your checkout: Kustom handles the switch. You may need a small integration update — we will let you know.

  • Separate Vipps checkout flow: You will need to remove it once Vipps is live inside Kustom Checkout. We will tell you when.

  • Vipps Express: A new integration to Kustom Express will be needed. Kustom will guide you through it.

  • Vipps Recurring: No action needed now. You will be informed well in advance.

Note: Kustom does not yet have a confirmed date for when the switch will happen for each merchant. You will be contacted with updates and clear instructions before anything changes for your store.

What stays the same

  • Vipps remains available as a payment method for your shoppers

  • Your pricing for Vipps transactions does not change

  • Your Kustom Checkout agreement stays in place — no new agreement needed

  • Checkout performance will not be affected

  • Your payout schedule remains unchanged unless otherwise communicated
