This applies to you if you are a merchant selling in the UK and offering Klarna Pay in 3 or Pay in 30 through Kustom Checkout.
What is changing?
From 15 July 2026, Klarna's Buy Now Pay Later products in the UK — Pay in 3 (the purchase is split into 3 equal payments) and Pay in 30 (the customer pays the full amount 30 days after purchase) — become regulated credit products under the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority, the UK's financial regulator).
This changes what you are allowed to say about these payment options on your website. Marketing text about regulated credit must follow FCA rules, and any statement that these products are "unregulated" becomes factually incorrect from that date.
What does BNPL and OSM mean?
BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later): payment options that let a customer receive their goods first and pay later, either in installments (Pay in 3) or as a delayed single payment (Pay in 30 days).
OSM (On-Site Messaging): Klarna's official widgets that display payment messaging on your product and checkout pages. Because Klarna controls the content, OSM widgets update automatically and stay compliant without any work from you.
Disclosure templates: short, legally required text snippets from Klarna that must appear next to any custom BNPL marketing message. Klarna provides three numbered templates (1, 2 and 3) for different scenarios.
When do I NOT need to do anything?
You don't need to take any action if all of the following are true:
BNPL options only appear inside the Klarna-hosted checkout itself
You only use standard Klarna OSM widgets (these update automatically)
You only show a "Pay with Klarna" badge or logo, without mentioning any credit terms
When DO I need to take action?
You must update your website if any of the following apply:
You have written your own BNPL marketing text (for example "Split into 3 easy payments") anywhere outside the OSM widgets. Replace it with Klarna's pre-approved wording and add the required disclosure text next to it.
Any text on your site says BNPL is "unregulated" or "not regulated by the FCA". Remove or correct this immediately — it will be factually wrong from 15 July 2026.
You already use Klarna's disclosure templates (1, 2 or 3). Replace them with the new versions.
When is the deadline?
All changes must be live on your website by 15 July 2026.
